Wireless Networking PDF Print E-mail

We can set-up any wireless equipment you have bought, or supply and fit wireless equipment for you.

All wireless routers we set-up will be configured to WPA-PSK the current highest security standard. If your wireless network is using WEP Security 128bit or 64bit then your network is not secure! This I am afraid to say includes the new BT Home HUB which from my experience is still using WEP 64bit Encryption to secure wireless network.

If you want to get your own parts what you should get depends on how you get the internet:

  • Cable -  NTL or Telewest - You need a 'Broadband Modem Router' 54mbps / 54G wireless is preferred, but not essential.
  • ADSL -  'BT' Landline, Talk Talk, Tiscali, Freeserve-Wanadoo-Orange, Utility Warehouse or Any other provider (except AOL) - You need an 'ADSL Modem Router' 54mbps / 54G wireless is preferred, but not essential.
  • ADSL - AOL - You need to contact AOL customer services on 0870 320 2020. Ask them what routers work with AOL at the moment. Last time I checked the 'Netgear DG834' worked fine.

If you can you, would be better leaving AOL and joining a proper provider.
